Breakdown of the social contract (among other things)

It's happening. It really is! The social contract our society is built upon is being choked out by so much. I read in the NY Times that many states and municipalities want those jailed to pay for it. Now, silly me, I thought the idea was basically this:

1) Living in this society meant you gave up the right to do anything for the protection and services of government through law.

2) You paid for this government and its services with your taxes.

3) Thus, since you joined and support the society, as a contributor you agree that those who break the law should be punished. Punishment includes imprisonment. Imprisonment is a responsibility of the society.

4) In order to keep its responsibilities to the social contract, the government PAYS to deprive you of your rights should you break the law.

Thank you Curious George W. for yet another contribution your philosophies have made to trashing the intellectual basis for our country. Of course, why look at things in an intellectual manner when you can look at them as black and white moralistic issues? Sigh

I mean to keep talking about my trip to NYC, but I've been so busy with work that I never seem to have the time to or the energy to at the same time. Of course when I start writing anything except the random thoughts trapped in my brain I panic. I get this feeling like I should run and hide because I'm exposing myself in a way that is out of my control. Once put out there, it's hard to take back. I don't believe it's a concern about judgment. My mental handicap with writing seems to be a control issue. I can't spit it out of my head like Zeus did Athena. It comes out as a garbled, bastard child like in some horror movie.

As much as I overthink it, there are people I know who overthink 100x more about even more trivial matters. They go about creating strategy to enable them to overthink. Again *sigh* People are strange.

And finally, a recent album that is interesting - The Von Bondies "Pawn Shoppe Heart" The song C'mon C'mon (theme to FX's Rescue Me) is very good. The rest seems good too. Though its interesting that the lead singer is the guy punched out by my Rock & Roll hero Jack White. Is it disloyal to my favorite rock band (the White Stripes) to buy a record by their 'nemesis'?

  • These are the ramblings of a madman. Slow down, Marty, slow down.
